New ownership is coming to the Weinberg campus in Getzville. Photos by Jim Courtney By Tracey Drury  –  Reporter, Buffalo Business First   In what could be its biggest nursing home deal yet, Elderwood’s owners are working to acquire the majority of programs at Weinberg Campus in Getzville. The deal includes the Rosa Coplon Jewish Home nursing facility, Dosberg Manor Adult Home & Assisted Living; Forest Creek Independent Living Facility; Garden House Assisted Living; Meadows Assisted Living; the Town Square for Aging facility and a certified home health agency program. Though neither side would disclose the overall sale price yet, Elderwood owners agreed it is its biggest publicized deal since the $141 million acquisition that brought Post Acute Partners into the market in 2013. The variety of programs, and the reputation of Weinberg, made the acquisition especially appealing, said Warren Cole, co-owner of Post Acute Partners and the Elderwood senior care network, headquartered downtown at 500 Seneca. “It is a rare opportunity to buy a campus that’s highly regarded, beautifully constructed and beautifully situated with every level of care,” he said. “It’s really the holy grail of what we do.” The Weinberg deal is the next in a series of buys by Post Acute Partners around the state,...

Sunday Spectator Inaugural event raises local awareness by Jason Jordan NORTH HORNELL - Walk a mile in the shoes of someone living with Alzheimer's Disease, those of his or her caregivers, or his or her friends and family. You will recognize sacrifice aimed at starving off a disease that effects millions of Americans. Alzheimer's is the most common form of dementia, a general term for memory loss and loss of other cognitive abilities serious enough to interfere with daily life. Alzheimer's disease accounts for 60 to 80 percent of dementia cases, according to figures from the Alzheimer's Association. On Saturday morning, local advocates spoke up and lent their voices to raise public awareness by hosting the first Hornell END Alzheimer's walk. The event was sponsored by Elderwood at Hornell, a multi-service adult care and skilled nursing facility where staff sees the ravages of the disease on a daily basis. Tracey Stillman, assistant administrator of guest relations at Elderwood, talked about why it was important to find local allies in the cause. The state Public Health and Health Planning Council approved the sale on August 3. Post Acute Partners, owned by Warren Cole and Dr. Jeffrey Rubin, said it operates more than a dozen nursing homes in western New York. We contacted Dr. Rubin and nursing home administrator Hal Payne. State regulators will vote next week on on nursing home acquisitions that would expand the Elderwood network in Niagara County and in Warren County. Post Acute Partners, co-owned by Warren Cole and Jeffrey Rubin, operates more than a dozen Elderwood facilities in the Western New York region. Now they’re working to acquire both Odd Fellow & Rebekah Rehabilitation & Health Care Center Inc. in Lockport and Adirondack Tri-County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center Inc. in North Creek. Both deals are subject to approval by the Public Health and Health Planning Council which functions under the state Department of Health. The acquisition in Lockport would see the company pay $10 million for Odd Fellow & Rebekah, a 126-bed nonprofit residential health care facility on Old Niagara Road. Funding includes $2 million in member equity and an $8 million bank loan from M&T Bank. The second deal for Adirondack Tri-County Nursing and Rehabilitation includes an 82-bed residential health care facility and a 10-slot adult day program. The two companies signed an asset-purchase agreement that will see Post Acute Partners pay $180,000 for the sale and acquisition of the operating interests and real property, plus assumption of operations and property liabilities of about $2.8 million. WAVERLY, NY – Elderwood at Waverly has achieved the Silver Commitment to Quality Award from the American Health Care Association. The National Quality Award program is a progressive process designed to encourage continuous quality improvement and provide a pathway for providers of long-term and post-acute care services to journey towards performance excellence. The Silver Award is the second of three distinctions possible through the AHCA National Quality Award Program, based on criteria adopted from the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. To earn the award, residences must demonstrate their commitment to improving quality of care for residents and patients in long-term and post-acute care settings. Members at the Silver Award level develop and demonstrate effective approaches that help improve performance and quality outcomes. The award is judged by a board of highly trained examiners from inside and outside the long-term care profession. Elderwood at Waverly is one of 191 long-term care facilities nationwide and among only seven facilities in New York State to earn a 2017 Silver Quality Award.
