BUFFALO, NY - Richard Cleland has been named Regional Director of Operations for Elderwood. In his new role, Mr. Cleland will provide direction and oversight to the leadership of the Central New York region including Elderwood of Lakeside at Brockport, Elderwood at Hornell, Elderwood at Liverpool, and Elderwood at Waverly. For two years, Mr. Cleland held the role of chief executive officer at Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo, NY. He most recently served as president of Ira Davenport Memorial Hospital in Elmira, NY. The establishment committee of the state Public Health and Health Planning Council voted Thursday to move all three licensed home-care services agency (LHCSA) applications forward to the full council, which will make its decision on April 12. Two of the applications came from companies affiliated with Elderwood: 2600 Niagara Falls Boulevard AL Operating Company LLC, doing business as Elderwood Home Care at Wheatfield, with the agency associated with the assisted living program at Elderwood Assisted Living at Wheatfield; and 5271 Main Street Operating Company LLC, doing business as Elderwood Home Care at Williamsville and affiliated with an assisted living program at the same address. The companies will provide nursing home health aides, physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech language pathology. Both are owned by Dr. Jeffrey Rubin and Warren Cole, co-CEOs of Acute Care Partners, which owns the Elderwood network of skilled nursing and assisted living facilities. Lisa Lundy has been appointed community relations coordinator for Elderwood at Lockport. In her new post, she will oversee marketing operations at the healthcare facility on Old Niagara Road and work to develop and strengthen relationships within the community and with area physicians and health care services. Lundy, a Lockport resident, has worked at the facility for over 19 years. She had been Odd Fellow and Rebekah Rehabilitation & Health Care Center's director of admissions and marketing since 1999. Lundy got her start in the field at Hamlin Terrace Health Care Center and worked at Canterbury Woods for two years. In 2016, Alicia Laible-Kenyon was appointed by the state Senate to serve on the statewide Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRC) Council and now serves as chair of the new regulatory and framework improvement subcommittee. Professionally, she serves as executive director of Elderwood Health Plan, a managed long-term care program. Though Elderwood offers all levels of senior care, its holdings do not include a state-designated continuing care retirement community. So why join the council? Laible-Kenyon, a former social worker, said she felt a sense of duty. “The governor was attempting to find representatives from across the state who had a background in health care,” she said. “There can only be one representative from a CCRC, but everyone on it has some industry knowledge.” Though many retirement communities offer a varied continuum of care from independent living to assisted living and skilled nursing, the CCRC model operates more like an insurance product, guaranteeing resident members will receive all the care they need without having to leave the campus.
