Sandra Burrows joins Memory Care Leadership at ElderwoodMay 24, 2017
BUFFALO, NY – Williamsville resident Sandra Burrows, AC-BC, CDP, MSS, has been named Director of Memory Care at Elderwood. Ms. Burrows comes to the Western New York area from Vincent, Ohio, and brings 30 years of experience to the job.
Ms. Burrows will oversee services to individuals with dementia-related disorders at Elderwood. Her goal is to make Elderwood one of the premier destinations for memory care in the nation. One of her greatest career accomplishments is designing and developing a 110-unit facility specific to the needs of dementia patients. The focus was on creating an individualized, safety focused atmosphere that still felt like home for patients with memory loss.
“People with Alzheimer’s are sometimes treated for what they have lost. We’re bringing care back to the person and treating them with a focus on the here and now and on their personality, understanding that care is individual. It’s about valuing the person; getting back to seeing them for who they are.”
Ms. Burrows worked with Golden Clinical Services, previously Beverly Health Care, for 13 years, as an Alzheimer’s Care and Quality of Life Consultant. Her work included, not only the design and development of care spaces, but also focusing on training staff and caregivers on safety, disease knowledge and person-centered care. Her work strives to help provide evidence-based life skills, so patients can live fully and enjoy the highest quality of life. She seeks to change the senior care industry with these principles at heart. Ms. Burrows speaks publicly to this end and has an excellent relationship with the Alzheimer’s Association.
“I see an opportunity to bring these models to Elderwood,” she said, “and I think it will make a difference for a lot of people.”
