The company’s new Elderwood Staffing Solutions will build a pool of on-call substitutes who will go through the company’s regular hiring and orientation process By Tracey Drury  – Reporter, Buffalo Business First Elderwood has launched a new staffing division to help identify and recruit nurses and other clinical care professionals for per diem work. The company’s new Elderwood Staffing Solutions will build a pool of on-call substitutes who will go through the company’s regular hiring and orientation process, allowing facilities to more quickly address staffing gaps with caregivers already familiar with its culture and protocols. Based at the company’s downtown Buffalo administrative offices, the division will recruit registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, certified nursing assistants and home health aides in both Western New York and the Syracuse area to start, with a goal of reaching other parts of the state where it owns or is in the midst of acquiring nursing homes and assisted living sites. The company currently has 25 sites in the state and is finalizing several acquisitions, including programs at the Weinberg Campus in Getzville. Individuals should be able to work...

BUFFALO, NY – Elderwood has introduced Elderwood Staffing Solutions to its talent acquisition program to help maintain consistent staffing and continuous quality care. The in-house agency effectively creates a reserve work force of registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, certified nursing assistants and home health aides to fill in during the temporary absence of an employee. Working on an as-needed basis, or "per diem," is common in the health care field. By forming a pool of on-call substitutes who have already gone through the hiring and orientation process, Elderwood can quickly fill staffing gaps with professional caregivers familiar with the company’s culture and protocols. The "float pool" system appeals to caregivers looking for a flexible work schedule. A per diem staff member can be more selective about the days and shifts they work, a plus for people who are caring for a family, working toward a degree or interested in occasionally supplementing their income. Elderwood Staffing Solutions enables quick response to staffing situations at any of Elderwood’s skilled and assisted living communities in western and central New York. Per diem workers aren’t "attached" to one building, but can be placed wherever there is a need, although geographic preferences are considered. Schedules of eight or...

Pictured is a view of a common area that can be used as a cafe, gathering space or living room. (Submitted photo) by Jennifer Wing After more than two years of remodeling, Elderwood at Liverpool has a new look. Nearly every inch of the skilled nursing and short-term rehab community at 4800 Bear Road, Liverpool, has been transformed. The decor features a subtle gray palette, accented with modern furnishings and retro-inspired fixtures. Ash and gray wood-look laminate flooring appears in many of the common areas. Artwork, fabrics, furnishings, upholstery and accents provide bright splashes of color. Nancy Dichiora, interior designer for the project, stressed the importance of blending aesthetics, comfort and practicality. Wheelchair mobility, acoustics and durability were among the considerations as she planned each space. The result is a resounding success. “Visitors can’t believe the transformation,” said Administrator Kristin Russell. Russell hurdled some unique challenges to coordinate a large-scope renovation project while caring for about160 long and short-term residents. “We had to consider the residents’ comfort while making sure the quality of care remained consistent,” she said. “We worked hard not to disrupt the residents’ daily schedules too much.” Residents were rotated to temporary rooms while their permanent room was remodeled. Russell credits Elderwood’s admissions, social...
