BUFFALO, NY – Williamsville resident Sandra Burrows, AC-BC, CDP, MSS, has been named Director of Memory Care at Elderwood. Ms. Burrows comes to the Western New York area from Vincent, Ohio, and brings 30 years of experience to the job. Ms. Burrows will oversee services to individuals with dementia-related disorders at Elderwood. Her goal is to make Elderwood one of the premier destinations for memory care in the nation. One of her greatest career accomplishments is designing and developing a 110-unit facility specific to the needs of dementia patients. The focus was on creating an individualized, safety focused atmosphere that still felt like home for patients with memory loss. "People with Alzheimer’s are sometimes treated for what they have lost. We’re bringing care back to the person and treating them with a focus on the here and now and on their personality, understanding that care is individual. BUFFALO, NY – Elderwood Administrative Services has moved its headquarters to 500 Seneca Street, Buffalo. The long-awaited move combines the majority of administrative services within 25,000 square feet of office space in the city’s Hydraulics District. The move to the city is a significant step for the organization. Elderwood staff and services have grown dramatically over the past few years. The move was spurred by a definite need for additional office space and a desire to combine administrative staff in one place to facilitate communication and collaboration. The offices for the Elderwood Health Plan managed long term care program, and all management and administrative services, totaling more than 100 employees, are all now headquartered at 500 Seneca. Elderwood’s Woodmark Pharmacy, Transportation Services, Development construction, maintenance and printing services will remain at the Wehrle Drive location. The mixed-use residential and office building was developed by Samuel Savarino with Frontier Group of Companies, who purchased the former F.N. Burt box making plant from New Era Cap in 2010. The company that operates the Elderwood nursing home chain has purchased a Lockport nursing home for $10 million. The Odd Fellow and Rebekah Rehabilitation and Health Care Center will be renamed Elderwood at Lockport once the deal closes later this year, said Eugene L. Urban, administrator of the 126-bed facility. Urban, who disclosed the purchase price, said the board of the not-for-profit facility had been working on a sale for three or four years. He said there were six prospective buyers. The field was later reduced to four, all of whom were interviewed by the Odd Fellows board. "We felt Elderwood was the place. We had similar philosophies, goals and quality of care," Urban said. He said he will remain in charge until the closing of the purchase by Post Acute Partners, the Elderwood parent firm. Urban said he expects no change in the number of beds or in the number of employees, which currently is about 200, counting full-time and part-time staff. Elderwood at Grand Island is set to receive an update for its physical and occupational therapy areas. The project represents the next in a series of nursing home renovations and expansions within the Elderwood network. According to plans filed last week with the New York State Department of Health, the facility will see renovations totaling $739,596 for the first-floor physical and occupational-therapy space. Acquired in 2013 by Post Acute Partners, the Elderwood network includes close to 20 skilled nursing and residential health facilities in Western New York. Last month, the company filed plans for a $585,000 renovation at its Williamsville site to relocate a 20-bed ventilator unit, while planning is underway for the Hamburg site. The Grand Island Boulevard nursing-home renovation will upgrade and modernize the therapy space for inpatient residents, along with renovations to the cardio-exercise and strength training area, private treatment areas, sensory therapy space, storage and several staff rooms. The project, to be privately funded, will also create a vestibule at the second-floor elevator to improve security for memory-care residents.
